So last weekend I decided to mess around with Virat Kohli’s hairstyle after watching cricket highlights. Total pain in the ass but kinda fun once I figured stuff out. Grab your popcorn, here’s how I butchered my hair before fixing it.
The Starting Disaster
First I grabbed my phone and zoomed in on pics of Virat from every damn angle. Big mistake – dude changes his hair like socks. Finally picked his slick undercut fade thing from last IPL season. Got my $20 clippers from Walmart, a handheld mirror, and some cheap pomade. Pro tip: have extra towels ready.
Execution Phase Chaos
Jumped right in like an idiot. Started clipper buzzing my sides at #1 guard – ended up with bald patches behind my ear. Freaked out, switched to #2. The top? Chopped it way too short with scissors trying to get that textured look. Looked like a freaking poodle with a receding hairline. Was sweating buckets trying to blend sides with a comb – water dripping everywhere while fighting with the handheld mirror.
Took breaks to yell at YouTube tutorials:
- Dudes act like their hair just magically parts left
- Nobody shows how uneven the damn nape gets
- “Just texturize” – yeah like it’s brain surgery
Salvage Operation
After 90 minutes of mess: wiped fog off bathroom mirror realizing I looked crazy. Sideburns longer on right side, back looking like patchy cornfield. Grabbed my girl’s fine-tooth comb to fix the wonky part. Applied pomade wrong first – made hair greasy like chip bag. Washed it out, used nickel-size amount rubbed warm between palms instead.
Fixed the disaster with:
- Swiping comb teeth vertically to lift flat spots
- Using clippers sideways on cowlicks near crown
- Finger-combing front pieces instead of harsh line
Final (Sorta) Victory
Took 6 beers and 3 hours total. Does it look like Virat’s? Hell no. But it looks decent from front during Zoom calls. Showered next morning – styling took 3 minutes since I knew where all the messed up parts hide now. Water activated styling cream works better than pomade for everyday use honestly.
Big lessons learned:
- Start with longer guard than you think
- Cut top WAY SLOWER than YouTube says
- Practice fading on weekends before work Mondays
- Accept you’ll look homeless for 30 minutes
Still won’t trust myself for proper events though. Just booked a $60 barber visit for next month’s cousin’s wedding. Baby steps people.
